Our Lenten Series this year is based on Parker Palmer’s new book, Healing the Heart of Democracy. We’ll spend six sessions together creating safe space in which to talk honestly, strive to transcend partisanship and reconnect as human beings across the political gulfs that try to divide us. This is not a book study, but a series of conversations; reading the book is welcome but not necessary. In the course of our meetings, we’ll explore and experiment with five habits that Palmer believes will help heal our hearts and the collective heart of our nation:
1. An understanding that we are all in this together.
2. An appreciation of the value of otherness.
3. An ability to hold tension in life-giving ways.
4. A sense of personal voice or agency.
5. A capacity to create community.
Facing a year of contentious politics at the state and national level, we’re excited about this opportunity to engage in deep conversation and strengthen the ties connecting our faith, our hearts, our convictions and our communities.
We will meet at 6:30 p.m. for potluck supper and conversation (soup provided) for six Thursdays: Feb. 23, Mar. 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29. You don’t need to attend all sessions, but they are connected, and we hope you’ll want to!  We hope to provide childcare during meetings.
